Early Life

Theo James was born Theodore Peter James Kinnaird Taptiklis on December 16, 1984, in High Wycombe, England. Theo is the son of National Health Service worker Jane Martin and business consultant Philip Taptiklis, and he has four older siblings. His heritage is Scottish and Greek, and he grew up in Askett in Buckinghamshire. James studied at Aylesbury Grammar School before earning a philosophy degree from the University of Nottingham. Theo met actress Ruth Kearney at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and they married on August 25, 2018. The couple welcomed a daughter in 2021 and a son in 2023. In 2016, James went to Greece with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to "learn more about its activities in the country and the reality of the situation for refugees." In 2023, he traveled to Jordan with the organization and "witnessed the realities of the Azraq Refugee Camp."
