Early Life

Lobel was born on November 25, 1975, in New York City. He grew up in the Queens borough of the city and had an entrepreneurial mind from a young age. In order to have extra money, he would shovel snow, rake leaves, and deliver newspapers. He also got jobs bussing tables in diners and was constantly on the lookout for other ways of making money. Lobel was very interested in music and the arts and realized he could use his business-savvy mind to help artists become successful in the industry. He initially began working at record labels while in his late teens.

Career

By the late 1990s, Lobel had gotten involved in artist management. His experience working at labels left him with the impression that labels did not always have the artist's best interests at heart. Lobel was fortunate to be surrounded by a few mentors who would have a lasting impact on his career. He knew Russell Simmons, who provided him with insights on how to be successful as a manager in the hip-hop industry specifically. His experience working at the labels had also allowed him to work with artists like Fat Joe, Big Pun, and Three 6 Mafia, as well as Run-DMC and Jam Master Jay. These experiences helped him immensely when he shifted to artist management. He initially began managing Bone Thugs-n-Harmony but would soon begin managing a wide number of other artists who were attracted to his expertise and business-savvy mind.

With the latter, he had a close relationship until Nipsey's death in 2019. Lobel often references the impact that Nipsey had on his life, particularly his work ethic and ability to be patient in waiting for success.

Lobel has remained an entrepreneur as he has gotten older. In 2019, he opened Lemonade/We Working. The space doubles as a cannabis dispensary and a hip-hop museum that displays various memorabilia that Lobel has collected over the years. Additionally, he co-founded The Heavenly Center, a treatment center for those suffering from drug addiction that uses cannabis as a way of facilitating recovery. He also has launched his own online educational course called "Steve Lobel's Educational Series," which is intended for artists who are hoping to become successful in the music business. He also frequently collaborates with fellow producer and manager Scott Storch. Lobel also sometimes travels the country offering motivational speeches, particularly aimed at high school students.

Lobel has kept his romantic and personal life out of the spotlight. However, he did make an appearance on the television reality series "The Millionaire Matchmaker" in 2013. The show focuses on helping wealthy singles find love through a matchmaking service run by professional matchmaker Patti Stanger. However, nothing serious seems to have resulted from Lobel's time on the show, as he is still reportedly single. He is also not known to have any children, though he does post photos of himself on social media enjoying time with his extended family.
