Early Life and Education

Stacy London was born on May 25, 1969 in New York City to Joy, a venture capitalist, and Herbert, the president emeritus of the Hudson Institute. She is of Sicilian descent on her mother's side and of Jewish ancestry on her father's side. For her higher education, London attended Vassar College, where she double-majored in 20th-century philosophy and German literature. She began taking fashion seriously as a career pursuit when she did a summer internship at Christian Dior's PR department in Paris.

Career Beginnings in Magazines

London started her career in fashion as a fashion assistant for Vogue magazine. She went on to become the senior fashion editor of Mademoiselle magazine. London also worked for such publications as Nylon and Contents.

Stylist Career

As a stylist, London has worked with such major celebrities as Kate Winslet and Liv Tyler, and on fashion shows for such designers as Vivienne Tam and Rebecca Taylor. She has also been involved in a plethora of advertising campaigns, for brands including Hanes, Target, Swatch, Calvin Klein, CoverGirl, and Longines.

Television Career

London became known to television audiences in 2003 when she began co-hosting the TLC makeover reality program "What Not to Wear" with Wayne Scot Lukas. She co-hosted with Clinton Kelly for the remaining nine seasons of the show through 2013. Based on the British series of the same name, "What Not to Wear" focused on the wardrobe and appearance makeovers of people selected for the show by their friends, relatives, or coworkers. In 2008, London launched a talk and variety show called "Shut Up! It's Stacy London!," which evolved into "Fashionably Late with Stacy London." Ultimately, the program only lasted for six episodes. Elsewhere on television, London did fashion reporting for such shows as "Access Hollywood," "Today," and "The Early Show."

Following the end of "What Not to Wear," London became the host of another TLC reality series, "Love, Lust or Run." On the show, she met with different women and helped them improve their fashion choices. The series ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2016. During that time, London served as a contributor on the 19th season of the daytime talk show "The View."

Other Endeavors

Among her other endeavors, London served as a spokesperson for Pantene, Dr. Scholl's, Woolite, and Riders by Lee between 2009 and 2010. With her business partner Cindy McLaughlin, she co-founded the online service Style for Hire, which matches people with personal stylists in their areas. The service was launched as a pilot in 2010 before operating fully in 2012 with 135 stylists across 24 cities.

Returning to the world of fashion magazines, London became the creative director and editor-in-chief of Westfield Style. The magazine has a few style lounges, which are staffed by professional stylists from London's service Style for Hire. London also served for a while as an editor-at-large for Shape magazine. In 2010, she ventured into acting when she performed in an off-Broadway production of the play "Love, Loss, and What I Wore."

Personal Life

London has struggled with some health issues throughout her life, particularly eating disorders. In the early 90s, she battled anorexia, binge-eating, and other weight issues.  London also deals with psoriasis, which led her to become a spokesperson for the National Psoriasis Foundation in 2007 and for AbbVie's "Uncover Your Confidence" campaign in 2013. Later, in 2016, she underwent spinal fusion surgery to fix a chronic back problem.

In 2018, London began dating musician Cat Yezbak, whom she claims is the first woman she's been in a serious romantic relationship with. London resides in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City.
