What is Richard Chandler's Net Worth?

Richard Chandler is a New Zealand-born businessman who has a net worth of $2.5 billion. Richard Chandler is the former CEO of the Sovereign group of companies that he had run in partnership with his brother, Christopher Chandler. Their joint company invested in various industries including telecommunications, electric utilities, steel, oil and gas, banking and oil refining; and thus by 2006 Sovereign had spread across Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. But one year later, the siblings split with Richard Chandler creating Orient Global, fund dedicated to deep value investing, basically in global emerging markets and especially in distress situations.

In April 2010, Orient Global changed its name into the Richard Chandler Corporation that has a clearly website-stated mission to "Build Prosperity for Tomorrow's World" through its financial and social investment groups. In 2007, he launched a US$100 million education initiative in the developing world, with main focus to build low-cost private education opportunities in India. Chandler is also the man behind the Freedom to Create Prize, an international award that celebrates the power of the arts to promote social justice and inspire the human spirit, as well as an accompanist for the Christchurch Boy's High School Senior Choir. In addition to the above, Richard holds interests in Union Bank of Nigeria, in the oil and gas company WesternZagros, and in the Canadian-listed Chinese timber firm Sino-Forest.
