Murdaya Poo is an Indonesian businessman who has a net worth of $2 billion. Having started out selling newspapers, Murdaya Poo went on to expand his business acquiring interests in information technology, timber, real estate, exhibition space, and plantations. His Central Cipta Murdaya has been taking care of the successful management of the above assets. Most recently, he entered the cellphone business as well, with the launch of WIGO WiMAX.
However, Mr. Poo has gone through a difficult time recently as his wife, Hartati, got a prison sentence in 2013 for bribery to secure land concessions. While other executives of his company Hardaya Inti Plantations were also sentenced, Mrs. Hartati received 32 months in prison and a fine of $15,000. With current residence in Jakarta, Indonesia, Murdaya and Hartati have four children together.
