Early Life

Bellamy was born on April 7, 1965, in Newark, New Jersey, to parents Edna and William Bellamy. He is the cousin of basketball player Shaquille O'Neal and grew up with his sister, Karen, as well as a brother who later died. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory School in South Orange, New Jersey. After finishing high school, he attended Rutgers University, where he majored in economics. While a student at Rutgers, he began doing stand-up.

Career

During his initial stand-up gigs, Bellamy realized he had a talent for engaging with audiences and making them laugh. He started performing in smaller comedy clubs and began developing a fan base, enabling him to travel to clubs around the nation. He had a following at the Improv club in New York, as well as at Comic Strip. He also performed at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. His career developed quite quickly in comparison to some other comedians, as within two years he found himself on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam."
